In the autumn semester of the current academic year, 22 GTK students had the opportunity to participate in the Business Simulations and Case Studies course organised jointly by ELTE GTK and Morgan Stanley. During the visit, students also had a chance to learn about the company, its 90-year history, and its wide ranging international financial activities.
The extensive connections between ELTE GTK and Morgan Stanley’s go back a long way and have included, among others, the presentation by former Chief Risk Officer Keishi Hotsuki in 2023, the company joining GTK’s Business Simulations and Case Studies scheme at a very early stage, and also Morgan Stanley offering a special prize for the Students Scientific Association Conference (TDK) for three years. One of this year’s winners of the prize, Le Ha Anh from Vietnam, was also among the participants of the course.
The two-day programme consisted of four 90-minute sessions per day and, during the lunch break, course participants also had an opportunity to discuss their academic and professional experiences with their instructors. ELTE GTK’s students gained an insight into the world of derivative transactions, financial investments, risk management, and the practical application of current financial instruments. The instructors were highly-trained in both macro and micro finance and, in addition to discussing central bank decision-making issues and monetary policy tools, they also gave insights into financial market operations.
One of the participating students, Panna Albert, found the course extremely useful:
"What helped me most was that each concept was linked to a real case or a real customer issue that they recently had to resolve."
According to another participant, Marcell Kerecsen, the theoretical foundations presented during the training were well complemented by the practical orientation of the course:
"[it] was an excellent learning opportunity that not only deepened my knowledge of derivatives but also improved my ability to understand how they work in real-life situations. I really enjoyed the experience and found it extremely useful from both an academic and professional perspective."
Le Ha Anh emphasized the instructor’s expertise,
“Each speaker brought their own unique expertise, contributing to a diversity of perspectives. One of the highlights of the course was the visit to Morgan Stanley’s office.”
In conclusion, who should take this course in the future? We recommend it to those bachelor’s and master’s students who would like to expand their knowledge of the financial and investment sectors and would like to learn more about the world of financial services and asset management companies such as Morgan Stanley.
GTK thanks Morgan Stanley for the excellent training and their warm hospitality!
