Important regulations
Arrival & enrolment

Arrival date

ELTE GTK recommends that you arrive in Budapest by:

  • 1 September for the Autumn/Winter semester
  • 1 February for the Spring/Summer semester.

Please note that in some cases the recommended arrival date might differ from the dates listed above. In these cases, the recommended arrival date is included in the information letter sent by the ELTE GTK International Team directly to the students.

Arrival MS Forms

Please fill in this MS Forms in which you can indicate the expected date of your arrival. Based on your answers, our International Team will be able to contact you and give you a slot for your in-person enrolment.

In the Forms you can also indicate if you are arriving later than recommended. Based on your answers, our International Team will be able to schedule you a late enrolment appointment.

Enrolment

In-person enrolment is essential to start your studies at ELTE GTK. By default, in-person enrolment takes place during the Faculty’s Enrolment Workshop week. Based on the answers given in the Arrival MS Forms, personalised enrolment slots are given to the students. For those students who are not able to participate in our Enrolment Workshop events, late enrolment opportunities are offered (and scheduled individually).

Faculty Enrolment Workshop

The Enrolment Workshop at the beginning of the semester provides incoming international students with indispensable information on various aspects of the Faculty’s procedures, as well as the premises, and the infrastructure. You will also meet the international team and some students helping the team, and some other students as well. The event aims to make international students feel at home straight away. To learn more about the enrolment workshop and what you need to bring along, visit the Enrolment section.

Late Enrolment

If you arrive after our enrolment week, please let us know via our questionnaire, so we can arrange your in-person enrolment. We recommend that you do your in-person enrolment as soon as possible. Note that the last date for late enrolment is:

  • 10 October for Autumn/Winter semester.
  • 10 March for Spring/Summer semester.

In case 10 October/March falls on a Saturday or Sunday, the last date for late enrolment is the last workday (Monday-Friday) before these dates.

Course registration

MS Teams info session

The International Office and the Student Union hold an online information session for incoming students a few days before the start of the course registration period. The participation link is sent to students by email.

Course registration period

There are 2 periods for course registration at the Faculty of Economics:

  • Ranking course registration period
  • First-come-first-served course registration period

Note the following:

  • At the end of the Ranking course registration period, some students may be deregistered from some or all of their courses. Do not worry about this just try to reregister for your chosen courses during the First-come-first-served registration period.
  • Some (first-year) courses only open for registration during the First-come-first-served registration period.

Information on Course Registration for International Bachelor Students is available here (IIG is needed for log in).

Registering for a course in Neptun

Course registration takes place in Neptun. You have to register for BOTH 1 lecture AND 1 seminar group in order to have a valid course registration. If you fail to register for either of them, you may be dropped from the course or you may face difficulties accessing the course materials/obtaining a grade in the given course. Note that certain courses have a set combination of lecture and seminar groups which must be followed. Usually seminar groups K, L, and N are designated for international students.

Adding/dropping a course

Bear it in mind that registering for or deregistering from (dropping) a course is only possible during the course registration period. If you really need to change a course after the deadline, there is one more week to do so by submitting a request in Neptun.

After the deadline, there is no possibility to make any changes to your course list.

Obtaining grades at elte GTK

By default, there are 2 ways to obtain a grade in a course at ELTE GTK:

  1. Earning an offered grade: offered grades can be earned based on the collected % points by writing midterms and doing in-class activities during the teaching/study period (earning extra percentage points contributing towards your grade is only possible through in-person, in-class activities, therefore class attendance is highly recommended).
  2. Taking an examduring the exam period.

Note that the % points earned in the midterms are counted separately from the % points eraned in the exams. If you choose to obtain a grade by taking an exam, only those % points will count towards you grade which you earn in that specific exam. % points earned in the midterms and in-class activities during the study/teaching period are not added to the exam %points.  More information on obtaining a grade is available on our faculty website’s Assessment subpage.

Midterms

All midterms at ELTE GTK are computer-based written tests held at the Exam Centre. Registration for midterms take place on the relevant course’s page in Moodle. Keep in mind that the registration closes at 8 a.m. 2 days prior to the midterm date. No midterms can be taken without registration.

Offered grades

Do not forget that if you receive an offered grade, it will appear in Neptun, and you will need to either accept it or reject it in Neptun. You can accept an offered grade in Neptun:

  • only within the given period, and
  • only if you do not have an active exam registration in the given course in Neptun.

If you accept an offered grade, it will become your final course grade and you will not be able to take an exam in that course. Decision on the offered grades cannot be changed, so make sure you make a carefully considered decision. If you are not satisfied with the offered grade and choose to reject it, you will have to take an exam in the course. In such cases, the result of the exam will be your final grade and this will be included in your Transcript of Records document. If you miss to react to the offered grade in Neptun by the deadline (i.e. you do nothing about it), it will automatically be considered as rejected, and you will have to take an exam to earn a grade. If you do not take the exam, you will not have a grade in the given course.

Exams

All exams at ELTE GTK are computer-based written tests held at the Exam Centre. Registration for the exams take place in Neptun. Remember that exam registration is possible until 24 hours before the start of the given exam.

By default, exams follow a bi-weekly pattern. Exam dates are published shortly before the start of the exam period in Neptun. Exams are carried out on a computer at our Exam Centre. You have maximum two retake exam opportunities per semester. Accordingly, there are two ways to participate in all retake exams:

  1. Taking three exams in one course: the first exam is the regular one. The following two exams are considered to be retake exams in the same course.
  2. Taking the two retake exams in two different courses:  in each course, the first exam is the regular exam and the second exam is the retake exam. If you take this route, you will have one retake opportunity in two exams each in a given semester.
Extending your stay at ELTE GTK

If you are planning to extend your studies at ELTE GTK, first you need to contact your home coordinator and seek their guidance on the process. If your home institution supports your extension, you can reach out to ELTE GTK’s International Office via incoming@gtk.elte.hu. If you have a document to be signed, please attach it to your email. ELTE GTK will evaluate your request and give you feedback on it. If your request is approved and you attached a document to be signed, the signed document will be returned to you.
