Welcome to the Faculty of Economics
Enrolment events for new international students were held at ELTE GTK between 6-8 September 2023.

ELTE GTK’s international student community continues to grow. In addition to the approximately 120 international students who have been studying at the Faculty for a few years now, around 50 new self-funded students and Stipendium Hungaricum scholarship holders from over 20 countries (including such distant lands as Sri Lanka, the Maldives Brazil, and Canada) joined the faculty in the autumn semester of 2023. This cohort of full-degree students on the two English-language degree programmes (the eight-semester International Business Economics and the seven-semester Finance and Administration programmes) are now joined by over 60 Erasmus and guest students, who have come to the Faculty of Economics to complement their home university studies by choosing a selection of English-language courses offered by GTK this semester.

The International Office organised a three-day enrolment event for the new students. After completing the administrative tasks on Wednesday, two days of information and induction sessions followed. On Thursday, the emphasis was placed on the academic requirements (from regulations through courses to assessment) but various fun ice-breaking and team building games allowed students to relax and make friends as well. Representatives of the student organisations (the Student Union and ESN) also participated in the games and introduced their organisations to their “colleagues”. In the afternoon, the new arrivals were given a chance to participate in ELTE's International Opening Ceremony and Information Market, and to meet the 1,000 new international students from over one hundred countries starting their studies at Hungary’s oldest and most prestigious university.

On Friday, the international coordinators briefed the newcomers on the various official administrative actions they were expected to complete very shortly after their arrival (e.g., obtaining a residence permit and a student card, opening a bank account, taking care of their health insurance, etc.). In an interactive workshop, the cohort was offered guidance on how to study in an international environment and how to improve the essential communication and study skills required not only to become successful students but also to enjoy university life to the full. The three-day event was rounded off by a campus tour organised by ESN on and around ELTE’s Astoria Campus to make the new students feel at home in their new environment

GTK’s International Office wishes our students success in their studies. Do not hesitate to contact us if you have any queries.

And while we warmly welcome our new international cohort, it is important to remember that ELTE GTK has always put great emphasis on international relations to ensure that students have the fullest possible experience during their studies. International opportunities for ELTE GTK’s students abound: Hungarian students study in the same classes with their fellow foreign students and they can regularly enjoy lectures given by visiting professors from abroad. In the spring semester, they can participate in the annual AVANS hackathon with Dutch students and the most dedicated can even study at the one-week summer university (BESU) offered by the Faculty every July. Various Erasmus and other international opportunities are also available to our students, including study abroad and traineeship grants. The Faculty’s partner university list is constantly expanding, and GTK students can now spend a semester studying at over 50 universities within the Erasmus framework. The current application period for scholarships is open until 26.09.2023 (20:00). Discover the opportunities that lie before you on the English-language website, here
