Application details for all

Prospective students of all nationalities are welcome to apply for the English-language programmes starting in September every year. Visit the links on this page to learn more about the programmes and the general application requirements. Candidates are kindly reminded that as some of the application details between the self-financed and the Stipendium Hungaricum scholarship programmes vary slightly, studying the appropriate applicant category below is of primary importance.

ELTE GTK also welcomes students transferring from other universities. While, due to the structure of the programmes, all transfer students must start their studies from the first academic year, credit transfer opportunities are offered to those who have successfully passed the admissions examinations, have paid the tuition fee, and have enrolled at ELTE GTK. The submitted transcripts (with the course curricula, information on the grading system, and the applicant’s grades) are assessed by a special Faculty Committee. Recognised credits may allow transfer students to complete their studies in fewer than 7/8 semesters, depending on the chosen programme. Contact the International Office for more information as soon as possible. IMPORTANT INFORMATION: As the Faculty of Economics only accepts students for the Autumn/Fall semesterno transfer during a running academic year is possible.

Stipendium Hungaricum transfer students must apply by sending an email to the International Office (sh@gtk.elte.huby 1 April the latest and follow a strict procedure described below.

One essential criterion to consider in advance is the applicant’s age. This is due to the highly bureaucratic character of the Hungarian public administration system, which requires the presence of a relative/legal guardian of an underage person (someone under the age of 18) to be present and to sign for the minor in all official situations. As a result of this, the Faculty of Economics only accepts students who are over the age of 18 at the time of enrolment (by default, 1 September), which is the legal age in Hungary.

For the small number of exceptions and not to miss the particular requirements that apply to prospective students under the age of 18 at the time of enrolment, carefully read the separate entry called “Special requirements for UNDERAGE APPLICANTS”.

The Stipendium Hungaricum Scholarship programme requires candidates to attain the age of 18 by the start of their studies.

SELF-FINANCED STUDENTS

For the admissions requirements visit the following links:

Applications are accepted through the ELTE Dream Apply system that you can access below. The application process normally starts in mid-November and closes in late April/early May. This schedule allows applicants to participate in the admission exams (by default, held in May) and successful candidates to obtain their visa and insurance, and to deal with all other administrative matters before starting their studies in early September. For more information, visit the “Before your arrival” section on our website, here.

Apply to GTK’s programmes here:

As part of the application process, prospective self-financed students must pay an initial one-off application fee.

The application fee

  • is EUR 155 per applicant. Those applying for both programmes have to pay only one application fee.
  • must be paid in EUR. No other currency is accepted, and no cash payments are permitted. Bank charges must be covered by the applicant. If in doubt, ask your bank about the amount.
  • must be paid by card via EPAY, the university’s official online payment platform.
  • must be paid at the time of the application, together with the submission of all the application documents by the application deadline, the latest. The payment receipt must also be uploaded to the application platform.
  • is non-refundable.
  • does not guarantee the applicant's invitation to the admissions exams or his/her admission to the selected programme.

For further information and detailed instructions on how to pay the application fee via EPAY, visit the Application Fee document.

STIPENDIUM HUNGARICUM SCHOLARSHIP HOLDERS

Students with excellent academic records can apply for the Stipendium Hungaricum (SH) scholarship. For those who are awarded the scholarship, the tuition fee is covered by the programme. They also receive monthly allowance to help with their living costs.

Prospective scholarship holders have to apply to their chosen programme NOT directly at the Faculty of Economics or ELTE but via the SH application platform called the Stipendium Hungaricum Dream Apply platform, which is usually open between mid-November and mid-January. For the eligibility and application criteria, visit the Stipendium Hungaricum website. The application timeline and a number of useful documents on that website will make the application process smoother.  Finally, if you would like to learn about the scholarship provider’s regulations for scholarship holders (Tempus Public Foundation, TPF) in advance, follow the link to Frequently Asked Questions – Already a scholarship holder.

STIPENDIUM HUNGARICUM SCHOLARSHIP STUDENTS WISHING TO TRANSFER TO ELTE GTK

Students who already hold a Stipendium Hungaricum scholarship and wish to change their programme and/or institution and/or the language of their studies (maximum once per training level and within one calendar year of the start of the scholarship period) are advised to follow the guidelines below.

  1. Read the information on ELTE’s institutional website (Current Students > Stipendium Hungaricum > During your studies > Change…) first. Pay particular attention to the FAQ section, the required documents, and the deadlines.
  2. Examine the information on the Stipendium Hungaricum website, particularly the “Already a Scholarship Holder” section in the FAQ part. You will find valuable advice and even a document you may wish to use for your transfer application there.
  3. Double check the eligibility requirements for your chosen programme (International Business Economics or Finance and Accounting) on the SH Partners page as the applicant’s country of origin determines to which programmes he/she can apply.
  4. Be aware of the scholarship extension regulations as you will most likely need some extra time (as a self-financed student) to complete your studies after transferring to the Faculty of Economics.
  5. Contact the Faculty of Economics early, preferably already in February but by 1 April the latest. To express your transfer intent and for further information (e.g. on credit transfer opportunities) and instructions, write to sh@gtk.elte.hu. Please note that no transfer requests submitted after the above deadline will be taken into consideration.
  6. Participate in the admissions exams held by the Faculty of Economics, usually in April.

Continue to follow the Tempus Public Foundation and ELTE institutional guidelines accessible on their websites (see above) to complete your transfer application.
