Introducing the Faculty of Economics to Avicenna International College Students
Hagar Sabek Walid (Egypt), a third-year Finance and Accounting student with the prestigious Stipendium Hungaricum scholarship, who represented ELTE GTK at AIC’s Career Day recounts her experiences of Avicenna International College’s Open Day:
In mid-November, I had the fantastic opportunity to represent the Faculty of Economics (ELTE GTK) at Avicenna International College, where, together with Dr Nóra Kelecsényi of GTK’s International Office, we presented our faculty and programme offer to prospective students. It was an excellent opportunity to showcase what makes our faculty a truly unique, supportive, and welcoming environment for aspiring economists and business people!
Our visit began with a warm welcome from Mr. Steve Szabó, the school principal, and Mr. János Kovács, Advisor to the President and Director for International Cooperation, followed by meeting the students and kicking off our presentation.
During our presentation, we delved into the details of our two fully English degree programmes: Finance and Accounting and International Business Economics. We briefly touched on the structure of the programs, the grading systems, and the job opportunities available after graduation.
I was also able to share my first-hand experience with the participants and tell them more about the wide range of activities and opportunities that are offered by GTK, from internationalisation locally and abroad through joint projects, the Summer University (BESU), the CHARM-EU online courses, the Erasmus + study abroad and traineeship opportunities, through our flexible curriculum (offered grades, free-elective courses), all the way to the high-end facilities such as the Video Library and fully computer-based exams at the Exam Centre.
We emphasised GTK’s excellent support system for international students, which includes our effective International Office team, GTKs Student Union (HÖK), the International Student Advisory Committee (ISAC), and the various buddy and mentorship systems.
To wrap up our presentation, we ran a short, but fun, quiz that encouraged students to recall the key details from our talk. The winners, or rather all the students, received some GTK merchandise as prizes!
Finally, we ended our visit with a short Q&A session where we answered the students’ further questions. Most enquiries focused on the application requirements and the admissions procedures. Students were reassured that the online application platform (ELTE DreamApply) would remain open until early May and that the fully online admissions exams would be just as innovative as the entire faculty.
It was truly a great, inspiring, and honourable experience to represent my faculty and connect with enthusiastic prospective students!
