Best Teachers and Best Students
At the end of November, a special ceremony was held at the Faculty of Economics. This was the fifth occasion that the Faculty of Economics Student Union (GTK HÖK) has celebrated the best teachers of the semester. This time, the students voted for their favourite teachers of the Spring Semester of the 2022/2023 academic year. And for the first time in the history of the Faculty, the winners of the National Higher Educational Scholarship (Nemzeti Felsőoktatási Ösztöndíj, or NFÖ for short, in Hungarian) were also presented their Certificate of Distinction.

At the ceremony, which was hosted by the Faculty Student Union and was followed by a reception, the president of GTK HÖK introduced the participants to the history of the teachers’ award. It was first designed to initiate communication between the teachers and the students, and to acknowledge the teachers’ efforts while also motivating them to improve their teaching. A Special Award was introduced also this year to recognise the efforts of those teachers and/or staff who worked in supporting roles at the Faculty.

Dr Tihamér Margitay, Faculty Dean addressed the winners of the NFÖ and emphasised their special role in the life of the Faculty: they set an example to their fellow students of what can be achieved with hard work and a positive attitude to learning. He also thanked the Student Union not only for organising the event but also for founding the awards and for organising such memorable events.

First, the National Higher Educational Scholarship certificates were presented to those of the 31 (22 bachelor’s and 9 master’s) students who were present at the ceremony. The awardees are:

The students had voted for the best teachers in five categories, both at bachelor’s and at master’s level. The winners of the awards are as follows:

BACHELOR’S LEVEL

BEST TEACHER: DR LÁSZLÓ SZÍVÓS

„He is by far the best, most student-oriented, most approachable, and most humorous teacher of the Faculty, who tries to make even the most boring topics exciting, and his English is perfect.”

BEST PREPARED TEACHER: DR GÁBOR ÁRVA

„His subject, Statistics, is difficult and dry but it is clearly visible that he really understands the topic and enjoys teaching it. If someone has problems with understanding something, he is always happy to explain it again, which is not easy with a subject that gets increasingly difficult as the semester progresses.”

MOST CREATIVE TEACHER: DR BÁLINT BEDZSULA

„The syllabus, the presentation of the material, the additional explanatory sections, as well as the uploaded documents and their organisation are all exemplary, and he continuously strives to improve them.”

FAIREST TEACHER: DR GYÖRGY WALTER

„The atmosphere of both the lectures and seminars was pleasant, he kept trying to cheer us up and he delivered the material with great enthusiasm. Attending his classes was a joy because it was clear that he enjoyed teaching his students, and this motivated us to study hard.”

FUNNIEST MOMENTS OF THE SEMESTER: DR LÁSZLÓ PERECZ

„Attending his classes was sheer joy because of the humorous examples he gave for every topic that made us cry with laughter.”

BEST MIDTERM: DR GABRIELLA LAMANDA

„Her midterms covered the topics she had discussed in the preceding summaries and so half of the students earned at least 25 points in the 30-point midterms.”

MASTER’S LEVEL

BEST TEACHER: DR MIHÁLY ORMOS

„Professor Ormos taught with extraordinary passion and gave interesting practical examples, so it was impossible not to listen to him, he truly engaged his audience.”

BEST PREPARED TEACHER: DR GÁBOR BÓTA

„He presented his subject in a way that captivated his audience. He clearly does not need his notes to teach his students as he knows the subject matter inside out.”

MOST CREATIVE TEACHER: DR ZOLTÁN GALÁNTAI

„Dr Galántai always uses innovative methods in his teaching. In addition, his presentations are always richly illustrated, and his lectures on global economic history are like a real journey into the past.”

FAIREST TEACHER: DR GERGELY HARSÁNYI

„His lecture style is very student-friendly, and he gives fascinating examples, making even the most difficult corporate finance cases look simple.”

FUNNIEST MOMENTS OF THE SEMESTER: DR LÁSZLÓ PERECZ

„His jokes are incredibly erudite and sophisticated, and he delivers them with extraordinary irony. This gives him the unique ability to present any subject matter in a topical way. One cannot help but enjoy his classes.”

BEST MIDTERM: DR TAMÁS PÁL

„There were no surprises at the midterms as the questions concentrated on the material he had shared on his slides.”

THE STUDENTS UNION’S SPECIAL AWARD

Dr György Andor for the implementation of the Building P project

Zoltán Fortuna, Head of Office (Finance), for his dedication towards the students
