Budapest public transport

Both general and particular information on Budapest’s public transport is available in English at BKV.hu.

Use the free application BudapestGo (downloadable from the App Store or the Google Play Store) to plan your journeys in Budapest and the suburbs, to purchase tickets, and much more.

Note: we recommend that you do not buy a full month’s full-price pass upon your arrival because when you obtain your temporary student card/certificate soon after the Enrolment Week, you will be able to purchase a monthly student pass for a significantly reduced price (about one-third of the full price). Until you can buy this pass, we recommend that you either buy single tickets or a 10-piece block of tickets or 24/72-hour travelcards, or a 15-day pass depending on your arrival date. Tickets and passes are available from vending machines at metro stations, railway and bus stations, larger tram, and bus stops, as well as from some newsagents (Relay). The Budapest public transport company BKK also has customer service points at the airport and at various transportation hubs in the city.
