Enrolment

The enrolment event

The enrolment event normally comprises of the following parts:

  1. Administrative session: to take care of administrative issues like checking personal documents (see list below), submitting official documents (like the Certificate of Arrival/Enrolment by Erasmus students), Neptun code and course registration issues, etc. No documents are issued or signed during the enrolment event. Instead, they are issued/returned within the shortest possible time. This includes the Certificate of Student Status, which is needed to obtain your Residence Permit and to request a Student Card. (The Student Card gives students access to numerous discounts from transportation tickets and passes to reduced entrance fees to various cultural institutions all over Hungary.)

  2. Welcome speech and various presentations (information sessions) introducing new students to ELTE GTK’s academic environment: the courses, the schedules, the platforms, the assessment, as well as some administrative requirements like obtaining a residence permit, taking out insurance, etc.

  3. Meet your mentor – Student organisations’ welcome and introduction. Erasmus Student Network (ESN) mentors and others present their organisations and the events and activities, including film nights and sports events, organised by them (https://www.elte.hu/en/orientation and https://www.esnelte.hu/events). By answering the questions posed by the new students they also ensure that you become part of our community.

  4. Campus tour organised by mentors. Students are shown around Building Q (classrooms, student lounge and kitchens, etc.) and the tour includes a visit to facilities outside our main building: classrooms in other campus buildings, the Faculty Exam Centre, the Video Library, and Quaestura (Egyetem Square 5.). The latter is the place to arrange most of your administrative issues during your studies at ELTE from correcting personal data in the database through obtaining a Neptun password to receiving your temporary student card.

Notes:

  • For the best enrolment experience, bring along an electronic device (preferably a LAPTOP).
  • WIFI will be provided.
  • The presentations are recorded and, together with the slides, are made available to all new students on the Moodle page dedicated to international students. This enables students to return to the most important points at any time when a question arises. Also students who arrive in Budapest after the enrolment event can learn about these issues by examining these materials without delay.
  • Underage students (those who are not yet 18 at the time of enrolment) must be accompanied by an English-speaking close relative/legal guardian (a person officially authorised by the student’s parents) during the enrolment process. In case of a parent accompanying the student, the student’s birth certificate will replace the authorisation. If the legal guardian does not speak English or Hungarian, the services of an interpreter, arranged by the student‘s family, will also be necessary. The relative/legal guardian will sign all official documents for the minor. The adult will also have to take care of all other administrative issues for the minor at the University (e.g., at the Quaestura office) and before other authorities. Such issues involve, for instance, data modification, student card application, opening a bank account, taking out insurance, etc. ELTE GTK does not provide such additional services to underage applicants and students.
